Here’s another great song to add to your music library.
At Saturate, the regional Acts29 Conference I attended a couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to a fresh setting of Horatius Bonar‘s text, “I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say,” created by Eric Damewood and our friends at Apostles Church NYC.
Eric prepared us by encouraging us to listen. Christian workers (rightly!) talk a lot and often have little time to hear Christ himself. So Eric led us to settle our hearts and listen as this new setting was introduced to us. Then a soloist sang it.
And we were all richly encouraged.
The text is fabulous (granted I’m partial to anything written by Bonar, Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s good friend). And unlike some modern settings of old hymns, the music and additional lyrics complement Bonar’s work beautifully and memorably, such that it brings a forgotten text back to life.
I’m glad that Apostles has made the song available on Bandcamp for just $1. Of course you can simply go to the page and stream it for free. But it’s certainly worth a buck to have it on the go.
You can purchase the whole Apostles CD for just $10.
