Our fourth pastor, William Parkinson, noted that the congregation held to the Second London Baptist Confession from its inception. The original records contain a summary of that confession, which you can read below:
[WE] ACKNOWLEDGE but one living and true God, who alone is possessed of all possible and divine perfections and attributes, yet we believe in a Trinity of Persons in the incomprehensible and adorable Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and that these three are but one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory, and that by this God all things were created and esteemed for his own Glory, that man was made upright, that Adam stood as a public head or representative for all his posterity in him, holding the election of God’s free grace in Christ, effectual calling, the final perseverance of the saints, the resurrection of the dead, and life everlasting, together with all the doctrines and ordinances contained in the word of God, comprised in the Old and New Testaments and that therein is contained the only rule for our faith and practice.
God be praised for his work in our founders, to lay a strong gospel foundation for our church!
