Advent and Christmas Hymnbook

Our friends, Ryan and Jen Martin, have compiled an Advent and Christmas Hymnbook that can be used for caroling. They include the following texts:

All Praise to Thee, Eternal Lord (Tallis’ Canon)
All My Heart this Night Rejoices
Angles From the Realms of Glory
Angels We Have Heard on High
Behold the Great Creator Makes
Christians, Awake, Salute the Happy Morn
Comfort, Comfort, Ye My People
Come, Thou Redeemer of the Earth
From Jesse’s Stock Up Springing
Gentle Mary Laid Her Child
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Good Christian Men, Rejoice
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
In the Bleak Mid-Winter
Joy to the World!
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
Long Ago and Far Away
O Come, All Ye Faithful
O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Of the Father’s Love Begotten
See Amid the Winter’s Snow
Silent Night! Holy Night!

At just $1 each, it is a great bargain. I’m hoping to purchase fifty for our youth group to use during the Advent season. If you’d like more information, you can e-mail Ryan here.

Is it just text or are there chords?

  2. It is in a standard hymnal form. I think Ryan copied public domain hymns from hymnals and put it together from there. So there are no guitar chords, just the four-part harmony. He and I have talked about the possibility of taking these songs and rewriting them to have simply a melody line with chords to make it easier for guitarists. We may try to do that for next Christmas.Matthew

  4. Sherm, I don’t know how you found my blog, but please don’t defile it with propaganda from the Ohio State University. =)
