Here’s a look ahead to what’s coming this weekend at First!
Final M’Cheyne Group
The last meeting of the group reading Robert Murray M’Cheyne’s Memoir will gather tonight at 79th and Broadway at 7pm. All are welcome!
Christmas Caroling on Broadway
A Christian group is meeting at the church Saturday and will be caroling on the steps at two times and have invited any and all to join them. Come from 11–12 or 1–2 if you want to join the choristers on Broadway.
Clothing for the Needy
Please bring your new and gently used clothing for the New York City Rescue Mission this Sunday. Ladies’ clothes are accepted, but there is a bigger need for men clothes: light jackets, socks, underwear, t-shirts, shirts, dress shirts, jeans, slacks, suits, and shoes. Thank you for taking part!
Fourth Sunday of Advent
This Sunday is Christmas Sunday, the climax of our anticipation of the Savior’s birth! Please be reminded that there will be no Sunday school this weekend. The choir will meet for rehearsal at 10am, and the doors will open at 10.30am.
Our celebration will include a string ensemble, who with our regular instruments will assist us as we worship our Lord Jesus. Be sure to come early for the prelude pieces by the strings and the organ. And we will conclude the service bycelebrating the Lord’s Table. It will be a great day!
The congregational songs this week are as follows. (If you don’t know a song, click its title and you’ll be taken to a video or audio rendition.)
- “O Come, All Ye Faithful“
- “Angels We Have Heard on High“
- “Fulness of Grace“
- “Of the Father’s Love Begotten“
- “What Child is This“
- “Silent Night“
- “Joy to the World“
The sermon text will be Isaiah 8.19–9.7.
Luncheon after the Service
Please join us for our monthly fellowship meal in Haldeman Chapel immediately after worship. There is no charge for the meal, and all are welcome. Last month we ran out of space in the Chapel. Praise the Lord for such problems! Please do your best to sit as far away from the doors as possible, leaving no seats unoccupied. That way, we can accommodate as many people as we can. Thanks in advance for serving one another this way!
Book Table . . .
Sunday is the last day to purchase a variety of books, booklets, and CDs. These would make great gifts for others or excellent resources for yourself. Visit the Chapel after worship.
. . . And a Special Offer
Particular Baptist Press is offering our church a 50% discount on two resources: The Life of John Gano (our first pastor) and An Exposition of Deuteronomy 33 by William Parkinson (our fourth pastor). Please go to the book table for more information.
This year’s Christmas offering has been set aside for global missions. Please prayerfully contribute what you are able, using the designated envelopes or otherwise identifying your gift as such.
