This Weekend at First (2/6/15)

Here’s a look ahead to what’s planned this weekend at First!

If You Could Ask God One Question

Tonight is the next discussion for all who are curious, questioning, or skeptical of the Christian message. The topic is “Why does God allow suffering?” Join us at 7pm here at First. Christians may attend if they bring a non-Christian guest.

Sunday school

The men continue their study of Mark’s Gospel in the library, while the ladies will begin a three-week study led by Mercy Davidson. Be here around 9.30am to join the conversation!

Sunday worship service

The congregational songs this week are as follows. (If you don’t know a song, click its title and you’ll be taken to a video or audio rendition.)

The sermon text will be Isaiah 14.24–32.

Volunteer Opportunities

Have some extra time on your hands? The church could use your help! From updating members lists to organizing our files, from answering the telephone to serving as a liaison for our renters, there is a place for you to serve. For more information, contact Gordon or Matthew.

re:new with Luis Palau and Francis Chan

As part of this year’s NYCityServe organized by the Palau Evangelistic Association, there will be a four-night conference held in our region this week. A fifth gathering has been added: Saturday at 9am at Calvary Baptist in Midtown. There is also space for you to attend the service at Brooklyn Tabernacle Friday at 7pm. Go to nycityserve.org/renew for more information.

Congregational News

If you were unable to attend the Annual Meeting and desire a copy of the Annual Report, please see Gordon on Sunday.

Finally the church passed a recommendation from the trustees to accept the boiler proposal from East Coast Energy, once our boiler fund reaches $175,000. Please pray and give as you are able.

See you this weekend!
