Good morning! It’s the calm before the storm, and we’re eager to see what our Lord has in store for us this weekend.
At this time, every event we have scheduled this weekend is still on, at least for now. That said, please notice that some announcements below include information in case of inclement weather.
Season of Fasting and Prayer
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am
Today and tomorrow are our last days for our annual Season of Fasting and Prayer. Thank you for your participation personally and in the small group gatherings this week. There will be an UWS prayer walk today at noon, and a gathering tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am to pray as well.
In case of inclement weather: please use discretion Saturday morning as to whether you should come. Whoever is able to make it will spend some time in prayer together.
Worship Team Vision Casting Dinner
Tomorrow (Saturday) at 6pm
If you would like to serve during our Sunday worship services, please make your plans to attend a dinner at the church tomorrow night at 6pm. This includes people of a wide variety of interests: from instrumentalists, singers, and worship leaders, to audio-visual volunteers and setup/teardown crews. RSVP to Steven Mann for more information.
In case of inclement weather: please contact Steve if you cannot make it. If the dinner is cancelled, we will send an email to all who RSVP’ed and post an announcement on our official Facebook and Twitter pages.
Come one, come all!
We need as many hands as possible to help keep a path clear on our sidewalks. If the snow tapers by Saturday evening, we’ll need some folks to help shovel then. But if the expected blizzard continues through the evening hours, then we’ll need people to come early Sunday to deal with the mess. Bring a shovel and dress warm!
In case of inclement weather: we’ll really need you!
Sunday school at 9.45am
Worship service at 11am
Here are the songs we plan to sing:
- “Holy, Holy, Holy”
- “He is Exalted”
- “Merciful God”
- “Arise, My Soul, Arise”
- “Come, Thou Fount”
- “My Soul Finds Rest”
These songs and more can be found on our free Spotify playlist.
The sermon text will be Isaiah 49.14–26.
In case of inclement weather: one way or another, we plan to have Sunday school and the worship service with those able to make it. It may be a very small group, but as the Lord wills, there will be worshipers at First Sunday morning.
Monthly Fellowship Meal
Sunday at 12.45pm
After Sunday worship, we are planning to enjoy a meal together in the Chapel. All are welcome and there is no charge.
In case of inclement weather: the luncheon may be canceled. An announcement to that effect will be made at the Sunday morning worship service.
Sunday at 1pm
The Annual Meeting is scheduled for Sunday at 1pm. All members are encouraged to attend. This is a very important gathering during which we will vote on new members, the 2016 budget, and a range of officers. These members are finishing their terms:
- Deacon: Winston James, Nick Peterson
- Trustee: Elsie Cadet-Greig, Wendy Coates, Jan Regalia
- Clerk: Donna Stephenson
In case of inclement weather: this may be canceled. A quorum of forty members is required to call the meeting to order. A determination will be made and announced Sunday. If we are unable to hold the Annual Meeting this Sunday, we will send an email to the church and post an announcement on our official Facebook and Twitter pages. The meeting would tentatively be reschedule for Sunday, February 21.
Joy Davidman Book Event
Friday, January 29 at 7pm
Join us for a conversation with the author of the new critically-acclaimed biography of Joy Davidman, the wife of C. S. Lewis. The evening will begin with a talk by the author, Abigail Santamaria, about Ms. Davidman, which will be followed by an audience question-and-answer session. Afterwards you can meet the author, purchase your copy of Joy, and have it signed. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends from the neighborhood to our church. Promotional cards are available in the lobby and in the Chapel.
Geneva Conservatory Faculty Concert
Saturday, January 30 at 6pm
The Geneva Conservatory of Music will present a concert featuring their faculty members. The Conservatory works in accordance with the values, purpose, and mission of the Geneva School of Manhattan, a coeducational school offering a classical, Christian education for students through eighth grade. The concert will benefit both the Conservatory as well as our church’s boiler fund. Make your plans to be here, and bring a friend. The concert begins at 6pm.
Hoping to see you this Sunday, if not before!
