Engraved on His Hands

When I was about eight years old, my mom and I went to Kmart. I hung out in the Hot Wheels section while she shopped elsewhere. But when she wasn’t quick in returning, I became concerned. Where is she? Did she forget about me? Did she leave me here? I ran around from department to department looking for her, all in vain. My concern morphed into full panic.

Such panic is reflected in the first verse of today’s passage: “The Lord has forsaken us; the Lord has forgotten us.”

How ever could the Lord reassure his frantic people?
