We’re planning a busy weekend at First! Here’s how you can participate:
Tonight at 7pm: Joy Davidman Book Event
Join us for a conversation with the author of the new critically-acclaimed biography of Joy Davidman, the wife of C. S. Lewis. The evening will begin at 7pm with a talk by the author, Abigail Santamaria, about Ms. Davidman, which will be followed by an audience question-and-answer session. Afterwards you can meet the author, purchase your copy of Joy, and have it signed. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends from the neighborhood to our church.
Tomorrow at 6pm: Geneva Conservatory Faculty Concert
The Geneva Conservatory of Music will present a concert featuring their faculty members. The Conservatory works in accordance with the values, purpose, and mission of the Geneva School of Manhattan, a coeducational school offering a classical, Christian education for students through eighth grade. The concert will benefit both the Conservatory as well as our church’s boiler fund. Make your plans to be here, and bring a friend. The concert begins at 6pm.
Sunday at 9.45am: Sunday School
Sunday at 10.40am: Pre-service prayer meeting
Sunday at 11am: Sunday worship service
Here are the songs we plan to sing:
- “O Worship the King”
- “Behold Our God”
- “Mercies Anew”
- “When I Survey”
- “In Christ Alone”
- “To the Praise of His Glorious Grace”
These songs and more can be found on our free Spotify playlist.
The sermon text will be Isaiah 50.1–11.
This past Sunday we added seven new members into our church family. Welcome Brian Coleman, Jonas Pachuski, Daniel Wheeldon, Carolina and Persio Lopez, and Brooke and Nathan Santamaria! Be sure to greet them this Sunday, and welcome them to our family.
Saturday, February 6 at 6pm: Worship Team Vision Casting Dinner
If you would like to serve during our Sunday worship services, please make your plans to attend a dinner at the church next Saturday at 6pm. This includes people of a wide variety of interests: from instrumentalists, singers, and worship leaders, to audio-visual volunteers and setup/teardown crews. Please contact Steven Mann for more information.
Sunday, February 7 at 11am: Safe Families for Children
We will be joined in worship by representatives of Safe Families for Children, an initiative to serve needy parents in the city by providing emergency, temporary hospitality for at risk children. You’ll hear more about them during the worship service, then have the opportunity to ask questions after the service in the Chapel. Let’s pray that the Spirit would give us wisdom as we consider how we might have a part in this very important ministry.
Sunday, February 21 at 1pm: Annual Meeting Adjournment
The Annual Meeting was adjourned until Sunday, February 21 at 1pm. When the meeting resumes, we will vote on new members, the 2016 budget, and a range of officers. These members are finishing their terms:
- Deacon: Winston James, Nick Peterson
- Trustee: Elsie Cadet-Greig, Wendy Coates, Jan Regalia
- Clerk: Donna Stephenson
Coming soon: New Members Class
We are making plans for our next New Members Class. If you are interested in participating, please email Daniel Koo at firstname.lastname@example.org.
