When you look at the city, what do you see? Not the buildings or the busyness or the grit and grime. But when you look into the face of people, what do you see? If you’re like most New Yorkers, your first honest answer might be nothing. It’s so easy to look past people. And if you give others any thought, it might likely be that you see them as simply being in the way. For us as Christians we might add to it that we see their sin.

But this passage reveals that we don’t look at the city the way Jesus does. Not that he overlooks sin, but he sees something else going on, and enters in to do something about it.

Title: Anointed to Bless

Text: Isaiah 61

Overview

What do you see…

  • when you look at the city?
  • when you look at Jesus?
  • when you look at yourself?
  • when you look at our church?
