One major project I finished in 2016 was an essay on the fifth pastor of our church, Spencer Houghton Cone. His life is truly remarkable. He was a teacher, an actor, a patriot, and eventually a pastor. His warm-heart and missions-mindedness were born out of his inflexible belief in the sovereign love of God. Cone is the kind of pastor I aspire to be, and I am grateful to stand far behind him in line as pastor of this congregation.
My sketch is included in volume 8 of A Noble Company: Biographical Essays on Notable Particular-Regular Baptists in America. Not surprisingly, it’s the longest one in the volume. But perhaps some day I’ll expand it still further to a book-length biography.
His legacy merits such treatment.
