Hitherto thy love hath blessed me;
Thou hast brought me to this place.
My name is Matthew Hoskinson, and I was born and reared in the Detroit area and was first drawn to trust Christ as an eight-year-old. As a teenager the Lord began kindling a desire for pastoral ministry in my heart, a desire that ultimately led to seminary studies in South Carolina and a Ph.D. in Theology. There I met my wife, Kimberly, a native of Ottawa, Illinois. We were married in 2000 and have since been blessed with four daughters.
While finishing my dissertation, I was called to serve as Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Discipleship at Heritage Bible Church in Greer, SC, where we had been members. In 2007 the elders asked me to serve as Pastor of Ministry Vision, a role that included vision-casting and administrative responsibilities.
After a bout with cancer a friend told me that the First Baptist Church of New York City was searching for a pastor. We’ve rejoiced as God opened doors for us, ultimately leading towards my installation as the nineteenth Pastor of the church on September 26, 2010.
My dissertation was recently adapted and published under the title Assurance of Salvation: Implications of a New Testament Theology of Hope, an adaptation of his dissertation. I have also written articles for the 9Marks eJournal and SharperIron.org.
